I guess this starts with Sunday night. It was then I decided I needed to wash my hair, because I usually skip Sundays and throw my hair up in a bun or flexi-8 on Mondays. I wanted my hair to look normal for my Monday class. So I washed.I decided it would be nice to try out a new conditioner. I took my mom to Whole Foods on Friday night to pick up stuff for our awesome new skin care routine. Some of the stuff we needed just happened to be in the same aisle as the hair stuff, so I looked. I ended up dropping Nature's Gate Herbal conditioner in the basket. I remember reading good reviews, and it was cheap, so I had to pick it up. As I applied it on Sunday night, there wasn't really any slip. In fact, it was almost the opposite. But it felt soo nice when I rinsed it out. The smell seemed a little strong, but I figured it would fade away as most rinse-outs do.
WRONG.
Yesterday afternoon, I was still going strong. And it wasn't a good smell... My entire head smelled like really really bad cologne. I don't know the radius of that smell, but I'm hoping it wasn't enough to where others could smell it. It was embarassing.
Anyway, I was really tired and busy last night, so I didn't re-wash. I know, the one time I should have and I don't. Instead, I woke up this morning and wet it down. Then I added in some Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment. The bad cologne smell was faint enough that the Island Fantasy scent completely overpowered it (yay!). Then I put my hair in a low ponytail and secured it into a messy bun with some bobby pins. It looked really cute and as so easy to do. And there you have it: the secret DT.
Why didn't I think of this during the winter? No idea, but it's something I'll continue to do as needed. I like getting the extra moisture and having a little secret is a great bonus!

out of curiosity, what is your new awesome skin care routine? i ask because i've recently started going CG for skin (no sulfates no silicones; basically because that would certainly make a change from old habits that weren't working for getting clear pretty skin) and am now starting to get as obsessive about skin-care labels as i was about hair stuff. if there's an old post on it just remind me the name and i can go find it. :) thanks!
ps - if you're curious, so far my skin likes the new routine, which is noxzema/ponds face wipes for cleansers and ponds dry skin for lotion--there is literally nothing else at a drugstore by way of a cone-free skin lotion. WTF.
Hey, no problem! I'll give all the credit to Jess for her post that got me interested (which reminds me, I need to bump that thread!):

I bought the book and half-attempted to follow through for about a week. I didn't use goat's milk and I skipped the honey part. I got my mom and sister hooked on it while I was home last weekend, so we went out and bought the right ingredients.
Right now I'm using olive oil to remove makeup, then cleansing with the goat's milk/organic Scottish oatmeal/flax seed meal mix. Then I use a hydrosol (rose or neroli) and add a few drops of Jason Vitamin E Beauty Oil (5,000 i.u.) to my face. Getting the right ingredients has really improved things!
I'm not brave enough to do the honey part yet because the honey we got is local and organic, which I think means it may still have pollen (I have allergies!). The book actually recommends using honey as a spot treatment for blemishes and I've been using that to see how it affects me. It's actually been really good at controlling/erasing my breakouts!
I've been "CG" with my skincare routine for about a year now (longer than I've been doing it with my hair!) and my skin is overall much better. I have sensitive combination skin that is prone to dryness when harsh cleansers are used. I can't even use soap/shampoo bars. I know what you mean about lotions and silicones - I picked up an Avalon Organics moisturizer at Target and totally didn't see that it had dimethicone until I had already used it! It actually made my skin oily so I haven't touched it since.
Ok this got long! I hope I answered everything!
Oh, and I definitely recommend the book. It intertwines a lot of the ideas with the Bible, which may not be your thing, but there is solid information there. The chapters cover hair care (she pretty much promotes CG), skin care, eating healthy, losing weight, ingredients in the cosmetic industry, etc. It's all stuff that follows the CG philosophy and it's a really good read!
Yay!!! I'm sooo glad you tried the routine and it works for all of you. Try the honey. I barely get any pimples at all anymore. One or two a week maybe. And you're right, there are tons of tips and some great info in the book. 4 months in and my skin is amazing. I can't even think of buying regular facewash again.
Thanks for explaining! That sounds like an interesting book. If these kinds of routines work for so many people now, better than "modern" products, it kind of makes you wonder why we got away from them in the first place.
I know! I guess it goes to show that chemicals aren't always the answer.
I think I'll bump that thread for Jess in a week. I'm already seeing some great improvement in some scars I have from last summer's african black soap experiment. Vitamin E oil is AMAZING.
Now I feel like I just should have done a post about skincare!
