*For the first 2 years of this blog, I had coarse hair and a protein sensitivity. This is reflected in my posts from 2009 to the beginning of 2011. It was around this time that I changed up some medication I was taking. My hair became less coarse and grew to love protein.
My Current HG Routine
1. Cleanse scalp with either V05 Champagne Kiss Conditioner (co-wash) or Organix Pomegranate Green Tea Shampoo (every 2-3 weeks)
2. Condition with V05 Champagne Kiss Conditioner or GVP Conditioning Balm if following a PT or low-poo
3. Brush through with Denman Brush, paying special attention to areas that need root lift. Flip upside-down and scrunch, then clip up for at least five minutes.
4. Turn water to as cold as you can stand. Flip head upside-down and scrunch conditioner out under the water.
5. Scrunch in styler. Right now I rotate between Spiral Solutions Firm Hold Gel, Darcy's Botanicals Natural Curls Coiling Jelly, and Donna Marie Miracurl Curling Gelly. Scrunch in a nickel-sized amount upside-down, on the right side, and on the left side.
6. Blot on each side with flour sack towel.
7. Scrunch in a little more styler on each side. Plop in another flour sack towel for no more than five minutes.
8. Scrunch in BRHG. I use about a nickel-sized amount for each step here: upside-down, left side, and right side; then turn right side-up and scrunch in back left, back right, front right, and front left. I cover all my bases. Plop for another five minutes in a flour sack towel
9. Remove towel. Scrunch in a nickel-sized amount of Curl Junkie Curls in a Bottle! on left and right sides.
10. Diffuser time. I diffuse upside down in two sections until curls are pretty set. Then I flip my head to the left and diffuse in about three sections until they feel pretty dry. Flip head to the right and finish it up
12. Clip curls and set with Garnier Fructis Curl Spray Gel.
My {Coarse & Highly Porous} HG Routine
AKA: What Used to Work
1. Spritz &; Condition with GVP Conditioning Balm; wait at least 20 minutes
2. Cleanse scalp with either V05 Sun-Kissed Raspberry Conditioner (co-wash) or Organix Pomegranate Green Tea Shampoo (low-poo) mixed with Ecostyler gel
3. Smooth in quarter-sized amount of GVP Conditioning Balm. Brush through with Denman brush, paying special attention to areas that need root lift. Clip up for at least five minutes
4. Turn faucet to cold water and rinse gently upside-down. I cup my hair and scrunch my hair under the cold water
5. Turn water off; scrunch excess water out. Apply (scrunch in) a dime- to nickel-sized amount of Kinky-Curly Knot Today
6. Unscrew lid of Pink Boots Curl Creme and get the tiniest amount of product out. It's probably less than half of a pea-sized amount; just enough to barely coat my hands when product is emulsfied. Scrunch into hair
7. Blot hair with flour sack towel. I blot once upside-down, and once on each side
8. Unscrew lid of Kinky-Curly Curling Custard and get the tiniest amount of product out. We're talking maybe a pea-sized amount; almost nothing. Not even a "just dip one finger in and see how much product you get" deal. Scrunch in upside-down; repeat on each side
9. Plop in flour sack towl or Curl-Ease towel
10. Scrunch in Aussie Instant Freeze Sculpting Gel. I use about a nickel-sized amount for each step here: upside-down, left side, and right side; then turn right side-up and scrunch in back left, back right, front right, and front left. I cover all my bases. Plop for another five minutes in a flour sack towel
I'm not sure that this does much, but it doesn't hurt
