Summer School

Today was the beginning of the second session of summer school. And even though I'm stuck in class for four hours (2 hour lab followed directly by the 2 hour lecture), it's not all bad... yet.

My biology professor is a curly! Think Lorraine Massey, but much better!

And today we learned about the "important molecules," which include lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins (there's a fourth, but we didn't get to it today)! I knew pretty much everything she talked about related to proteins solely because of my curl knowledge! How cool is that?

There was an interesting discussion on the structure of proteins and what can change them. Proteins are functionally dependent on their structure, and this has awakened the inner geek in me. It took a while, but it's here! I'm wondering if I do something to change the structure of a protein, if it will stop the effect it has on my hair and allow me to use products I normally wouldn't be able to use.

That goes down a whole other road. I have a major headache right now, so am not thinking about or looking to experiment anytime soon, but it's an interesting thought.

You get this figured out Jenn and you let us protein sensitive gals STAT! I mean it girl STAT!!!!! ;) Something really weird though is that in Summer I can take more protein, thanks to RCC for figuring that out..

Working on it!

That's interesting about summer... because last summer I could use it with no problem. It wasn't until fall when the weather started changing that I couldn't use it anymore. At the time, I attributed it to just starting out CG. But I also don't think I had very much damage, so not sure about that one. I'm too scared to test out this though!

I can understand you being scared! I was too!!! But, what kind of protein are you feeding your hair? None at all? We all need a little and that could possibly be why your hair is acting up. I saw an improvement with frizz and how my hair was responding to my trusted Summer routine. It wasn't responding well so as a last resort I took a HIT of protein and BAM just like that huge improvement! I went all Fall/Winter without any protein and did just fine. I still used BRHG though and LVPNG a couple times a week that was enough for the Season.

Yeah, it's been since the end of March. I guess it is time! I did try it in November (?) and had the same experience that you're describing. Thanks for reminding me! It's so easy to get on the no protein train and forget that you do need it more than once a year.

Ahh yes the No Protein train....it's scary to get off! I hadn't done a protein TX since the Winter. I didn't notice any huge improvement when I used the ION protein TX from Sallys. I had also been experimenting with lots of stuff off and on that had WHEAT protein so it's possible I didn't need it but at least there was no adverse reaction like I usually get from too much WHEAT.
