Once again, I let myself get to the bottom of a conditioner bottle before I even thought of buying my next one. "Oh well," I thought, "I'll just stop at Sally's on the way home and pick one up." Sounds like a plan, right?
Wrong. I walk in the door, walk straight back to the GVP section and lo and behold: no Conditioning Balm!
"WTF!" my mind exclaimed.
"Can I help you find something?" the employee asks. I explain what I'm looking for and she walks over to the Biotera section before turning around and replying "Oh, no, I know what you're talking about."
We look desperately (ok, I'm being a little dramatic) for the bottle of conditioner. It's simply not there. It's not even like there's a space for one and it's just empty. There is a whole row of GVP Matrix products, but this one is missing.
"Well, it should be here. Unless we've discontinued it, which I didn't think we had. HUM."
DISCONTINUED? This is the ONE conditioner I can use - it's moisturizing enough and it does not contain any bad ingredients, like the usual silicones, protein, or oils.
Then, she walks away. Without any explanation. She sort of acted like she was going to the stock room, but turned at the last second and went back to whatever aisle she had been in before. And starts humming again. Ok...
So I looked around where it should have been for a temporary replacement. No luck, everything has silicones, protein, and lanolin.
"Are you finding everything?" another employee asks. Yes, I am. Obviously that is why I've already been asked and why I'm staring wide-eyed at a display of hair products.
Eventually I decide to stop wasting my time (because I've already wasted enough just by driving there) and walk out the door dejectedly. "Thanks!" the employee yells after me. Yeah, thanks for nothing.
So I race home and what do you know? It's on their website. So now I have to order online and pay shipping (I'm not having the store order it - not dealing with them again).
This time I'll order two, so it will be another three months until I have to deal with this again.

I find that I have to rotate my conditioning conditioners. The GVP conditioning balm is one. The others I like are Walgreen's version, BioInfusion Hydrating Conditioning Balm, and Aquelle Healing (which I've only ever seen at Sally's--I think it has a little protein, though, and I can't remember if you're avoiding that right now or not). From an ingredient standpoint what they have that my hair likes are fatty alcohols and not much oil (oil and my hair do not mix). so you might at least check ingredients if you want a locally available alternative.
Thanks! Those are the exact ingredients I am looking for. I ended up ordering two bottles from Sally's (which shipped today). I was looking at another one, and it may have been the Aquelle, but that little amount of protein stopped me (currently off, lol). I will definitely look into the Bioinfusion though - I got my sister the shampoo when she began mod-CG last year, so I know they're a good line!
Miss Jenn how in the world do you not have a back up & how is it that you have still not tried the EO conditioners? Some of them have amino acids and some have quinoa protein. Amino acids don't stick to the hair as much as some other proteins. If you have a whole foods nearby it might be worth your while ;) I've heard some Bed & Bath's carry this line too. Otherwise it's another on-line purchase....I really love my EO condish and rotate it with the Balm. The amino acids do not bother me in the least and you know how finicky I am!
It's the protein that's scared me off. The shot of protein I had a few weeks ago was amino acids and after the third use (not consecutively), I had dry, frizzy hair.
You would think I would have back up, right? I have back ups for my co-wash and KCCC, but not this. I did order two bottles yesterday (shipped today) and came very close to ordering a cheap one that had everything I wanted except for the wheat protein, so I decided not to chance it. I have so many products in my protein graveyard that I'm scared to buy something and then add to it.
Just looked at the ingredients for EO Chamomile & Honey.. I would so have that if not for the protein!
